Electrical Protection Grading & Study

Electrical Services 1.jpg

Blackbird Engineering is utilising industry-leading software ETAP for HV and LV protection studies.

Appropriate power protection coordination of various elements ensures minimal disturbance in isolation of a fault event. Major shutdowns cost money in lost production and possibly spoiled product.

Through detailed cascading design considerations and system simulations, achievement of the correct level of protection of each electrical area feeder can provide installation reliability, whilst maximising safety of operation, and minimising any potential equipment damage during faults.

Arc Flash Assessment

Blackbird Engineering has the expertise to evaluate and assess arc flash hazards and mitigation methods.

An Arc Flash Assessment / Analysis is a study of the facility’s power system to determine the incident energy available at specific electrical devices that employees would be exposed to while “interacting with” the electrical equipment at the facility. The output of the Assessment/ Analysis is a determination and labeling of the PPE required of the electrical devices, suitability of the devices for service as installed and if there are any miss- coordination issues involved as the system is currently installed.

Power quality for both the low voltage and medium voltage network is a critical challenge in industrial and commercial applications.

Blackbird Engineering has the expertise to design efficient and cost-effective power quality solutions for commercial and industrial power systems. Benefits of Power Quality Correction are:

  • Compliance with the power quality regulations for reactive power and harmonics

  • Reduction or elimination of utility penalties for a low power factor or harmonics

  • Off-loading and reduction of power losses in cables and transformers

  • Reducing production or industrial system downtime

  • Increased electrical system efficiency

  • Reduction of CO2 emissions
